Tara in Tibetan Buddhism is a female Bodhisattva. She is also known as the “mother of liberation”, and represents the virtues of success in work and achievements. Tara may more properly be understood as different aspects of the same quality, as bodhisattvas are often considered metaphors for Buddhist virtues. White Tara counteracts illness and thereby helps to bring about a long life. She embodies the motivation that is compassion and is said to be as white and radiant as the moon.In the painting, White Tara is seen in a meditative position in a very decorative sofa full of flowers and garlands.
